Hi Pear TreeI'm sorry to hear about this. I was told by the police that they considered putting my daughter in prison when she was 14 on an unruly certificate. At the time, having recovered memories of early sexual abuse, she was abusing alcohol and solvents and was shoplifting alcohol and lighter fuel to abuse. She was excluded from school. She ended up being sent to a residential school for delinquents. I have found two useful websites for you.www.prisonersfamilies.org.uk/Action_for_Prisoners_Families_enews_23...www.prisonreformtrust.org.uk/Sometimes the offender is remanded in custody while reports are prepared. This happened to my son. It turned out to be a salutary experience for him. He got a big shock when he was remanded for two weeks to our local prison. In the event he was given community service and electronically tagged. He complied with all the requirements of his non custodial sentence. Spending two weeks in prison was a wake up call for him. It gave him a big shock. He has not been back since. If a young person is given a custodial sentence all is not lost. My friend's AS was given a long custodial sentence for a serious assault. He has been benefitting from the educational facilities at his institution and is generally doing well. My friend visits him regularly.Lily x

I had a quick Google, and it looks as if girls under 17 don't go to prison (officially, anyway), but to a secure children's home or secure training centre.http://www.howardleague.org/custodial-places-children/

Hi Pear tree, I'm so sorry for you all. Can I ask will it be a young offender institute or a secure children's home? The later is the much better option, smaller, better staff child ratios etc. Given your daughters vulnerability it should be the secure children's homes. There is a a webpage which lists them across the country;http://www.securechildrenshomes.org.uk/Our experience has been very positive, but they all differ, can you talk to YOT about any influence they can exert? Please pm if you would like any further information.jez

Ok, found out a little more today,She's having pre sentence reports But everyone is clearly saying custodialSo We're all for influencing her pre sentence reportsBut the judge will not have control over where she goes ultimatelyThere's a secure unit that is a mix of beds (social/ health/ criminal) locally that would be a "good" optionBuying a place there is something we've tried and failed to get, so instead we are at the whimsical space lead provision of the youth justice board. There's a secure place called Clare lodge I looked at and liked but they only have social beds and we could not get ss to fund. They continually say blossom does not meet "criteria" Nor for health. But she does it seems be available for all manner of criminal acts that she can go to prison for.The people who do this to YP should go to prison IMO,

So sorry to hear about this. What a worry. Just remember that our kids are survivors and I'm sure whatever happens she will come through. All you can do is continue to love and support her. Moonshadow x

So sorry to hear this news PT. Maybe sometimes you have to stop fighting and let things happen. You'll find a way of getting through this - look after yourself. Hugs x

Maybe stopping fighting is an aim I'd like to achieve.... It was on my New Years resolution list.It has been on there for several years. Need say no more?Moonshadow you said every thing right, I just can't quite think just how we arrived here!We haven't told partridge but until the actual time, I can't fight that battle.
