Very scared about Medical as history of depression

Bobby1610 August 1, 2013 22:21

We are about to have our medicals and I have a history of depression. It was quite serious in 2006 but I have been symptom free for a few years now and it really was an episode brought on by a job which I no longer do.I went to see my GP about this and he seems fairly confident that it will be ok and I have discussed everything with my sw and she too said everything would be fine as it was a long time ago - however I am still nervous.Has anyone else been in this position?

I was (and still am) on anti-depressants and told the agency this when I first enquired. I had received a high % of "do not bother we will not even consider you until you have been clear from anti-depressants for a year" messages from several other agencies I had enquired at but this final one said that they did not see it as a problem so we went with them. We have now been approved at panel and a currently matched/linked to a child who we hope to have home with us later this year.

Thank you.No it was not mentioned at panel. Panel made it very clear that it was not their role to re-assess us.They asked us what we were most looking forward to if we got s child. They asked what age of child we were hoping for and if we had any preference which sex. They asked my hubby what football team he supported and what we/he would do if the child supported a different team but I think this was more of a "lighthearted" question. I think that was all they asked us ;-)

That is great to here! Phew! I have been so worried about it. I guess as I have been honest with the sw about it, she would have said if it was going to be a problem. Thanks again!

HiI am a few days away from panel. I had postnatal depression after one of my children & was on Anti D's for a while. MY SW states it wont be an issue and described it as a strength I have. Their own GP did not even mention it in their comments and stated I was healthy. As above and what my SW said if they were concerned they wouldn't take you to panel.

Had medical today and the doctor said that there is nothing to worry about as so long ago. He was incredibly supportive and wrote a lovely letter in support of our application. Phew!!!

Just to reassure you, we have been approved today and my dh has suffered a bout of depression for which he is still taking medication. The panel asked about this but it was not a problem as it was managed well. We were honest about it from day one.

Hi Bobby1610We went to panel on Monday and were approved.I am still taking anti-depressants and have been taking them on and off as prescribed by my doctor for quite a few years, although admittedly it is a low dose.I have also had quite a bit of counselling. The MORE important thing is to be upfront about it and show that you would know what to do if it should strike again. All the best! :-)
