http://contact.rip.org.uk/letterbox-contact/ This website supports practitioners working on making positive post-adoption contact plans and supporting birth relatives and adopters through contact planning for their child. The materials on this website bring together knowledge from research and practice. They draw on research by Professor Beth Neil at University of East Anglia. Research in Practice has worked with Beth and practitioners across England to share expertise and produce accessible and practical resources for professionals involved in this work. The materials are aimed at those involved in: Making, reviewing and supporting plans for post-adoption contact Recruiting, assessing training and supporting adopters and foster carers Supporting birth families whose children are being placed for adoption Training and supervision of social workers and contact supervisors. The website covers the following topics: Planning and reviewing contact plans Supporting birth relatives Supporting adopters Listening to children Letterbox contact For each topic you will find a mixture of research briefings, practice guides, presentations, exercises and practical tools for working with families. A number of case studies and film clips of interviews with children and their families are included that can be used across the topics for training and learning. They can also be useful as standalone resources for individual or team learning.

Is obviously aimed at training SWs, so some materials are a little off point for adopters, but the sample letters alone would be useful for those who haven't done contact before. Good find chestnut. Worth asking AUK to link this on site somewhere?

It is aimed at SWs, but I thought it might be helpful in understanding everyone's perspective on letterbox, since adopters/birth parents/ adoptees / SW views often differ so much.
