My dd aged 10 has spent afternoon with her TA wanting to know more about her heritage.....! She has 2nd generation black jamaican dad - never met but we have pics (and he has other children) and white UK mum.Does any one have any books/dvds that could be useful to her to help...fiction/non fiction? Thanks

If you phone the AUK helpline they have a library of books, some particularly suitable for this, but also chatting to your librarian/book shop assistant might give you some ideas.l

HiDoes she want to know more about the Jamaican side of her heritage? Or the birth family part of her heritage?I ask these questions as our lo has one BP who was born in Dominica and one who's parents came from St Lucia but gave birth to BM over here and returned to St Lucia. So it's complicated but generally his heritage is Carribean, we have got lots of books on the Windward Islands and the people who live there, their traditions, food etc. the all came from Amazon. But he's really from central London and needs to know the culture he's from there too.We also have books like Brown Like Me, I love my hair, Bright Eyes Brown Skin, which are for much younger children than 10 years, to create a positive feeling about looking different (I'm white and DH is mixed race). There is a book called J is for Jamaica which might be a good start.Hope this helpsSel
