Call for Participants in Project on Transracial Adoption.Posted on behalf of Suki Ali.My name is Suki Ali and I am a sociologist based at the London School of Economics. My main area of research is mixed race identities and I have worked with children and their families and in schools. In this research I am looking at the ways in which complex ethnic and racial identities of adopted children are negotiated in practice by parents and professionals. I am particularly interested in talking to those who support children for whom some part of their ethnic identity is unknown, or who have multiple heritage. I am keen to speak to adopters about the process of adopting children with these complex identities or unknown heritage, and their subsequent experiences of parenting. I would also like to speak to practitioners about what kind of advice and support they give to potential adopters about children with complex or unknown ethnic identities. I would like to provide a space for people to talk about and reflect upon their everyday experiences of these issues.I am experienced researcher and work within the British Sociological Association’s ethical guidelines. I am aware of the sensitive nature of this topic and all responses will be kept confidential. All material will be held securely and any material used will be anonymised. The research will take the form of interviews which can be conducted by phone or in person at your convenience. I would expect them to take about 30 minutes, or longer if you feel you have more you would like to contribute.I am conducting this research as I have a passionate commitment to furthering understanding of mixed and complex ethnic and racial identities. I would like the research to add to more rich and detailed information on this important area, and be made available to a wide audience. I also hope to use the research material to support a bid for funding for a larger project exploring these issues in greater depth. Please call or email if you would like any more information - I would be very happy to discuss this further. My contact details are:---- EMAIL REDACTED ----tel: 0207-8562-3781Many Thanks!
