Thankyou for all replies, another question!!

Hi everyone, thank you all for taking the time to reply and share your thoughts,I think they are right, it''s sounds as if you are all very special . It looks like relevant experience with children is the key to this and something I lack. Yes I am really interested in working with children with special needs. I am busy trying to find special needs schools in the Herts, London and surrounding areas, with no luck at the moment. Does know of any schools I could approach in this area? I have been registered with several voluntary bureau for voluntary work with children and had experience of looking after disadvantaged children on break weekends, but other than this relevant vacancies do not seem to be advertised.Bit confused at the moment - do you think I should stop trying to find an agency and get more child care experience first or keep trying to find an agency to accept me whilst in the process of gaining experience? The last agency said call back in 6 months as they had they couldn''t take on any more singles so feeling a bit frustrated as I''m sure you all have.Best wishes,LW x

all schools mainstream and those for children with specific needs will be listed on the education section of the local government websites. You can also check their Ofsted or Estyn inspection reports. However, most schools have units attached to them, secondary ones tend to.personally i would contact lots of agencys to see what reaponse you get and express your interest with them. The whole process is so long from beginning to end that i can't see why you can do voluntary work at the same time. However, you may feel that you want to concentrate on one thing at a time.Raspberrysmoothie

This may or not help, butI found places seemed a bit 'suspicious' of me volunteering randomly. So I started explaining I was hoping to adopt, and the response got a lot warmer.Best wishesKanga2

Good news, have found a special needs school that are happy for me to do voluntary work for them. Have had no luck as yet with offering to babysit for foster agencies so if any one has any ideas or other options please let me know. Many thanks for your messages, they have really helped me.
