Can I adopt?

grl24 July 24, 2009 17:05

Hi all,I''m thinking of adopting in a few years, but 5 years ago I had an undiagnosed pregnancy-not finding out I was pregnant until I was in labour. I had no money (I was at Uni), no support (my parents had balliffs at the door)and no stable relationship so I gave the baby up for adoption. He''s really happy now and we have letterbox contact. Now I''m in a very stable relationship, own our own home, stable job as a teacher. Do you think I would be allowed to adopt or not? I''d love the chance to give a child or two a happy home. Many thanks for your time,G. x

I think you would be allowed to adopt, but you may need to contact a few LA/VAs to find one who would manage your background appropriately. You would probably have to spend a good amount of time in your Homestudy discussing how you feel about having relinquished a baby, contact etc, and how that will impact on you and any child you adopt. Also as it seems you can get pregnant, they would wish to explore with you why you have not chosen to have more birth children, or whether this is still a possibility for you.Best wishes for howver you proceedKanga2
