G2

CatLady1 May 2, 2019 17:24

Behold! I have managed to change my community name to something resembling my original Cat Lady. More than a few emails passed between me and the admin at Linkmaker and after much rummaging through the website, i had a degree of success. Would I know how to do it again? The jury is out on that. Chicks Mum, I sympathise with all the tedious waiting you’re going through. Hope everyone is ok.. but it’s eerily quiet on the forum.

Can I just say "woohhhooooooooo" (ghost noise from popular televisual fiction)? Or maybe not (but I just did!). Yes, it is well quiet here. I am fine - good to hear from the "real" Cat Lady!

Createamum, how are you doing? I'm worried at the radio silence. Please check in.

Do I have the patience to go through the 12 step approach every time I want to post? I dont think so! So sad that such a wonderful resource has been lost (though it was a gradual process over a number of "upgrades") Just to let you know CM that my phone is not working and in for repairs so I'm not currently on WhatsApp. Look forward to all those who are interested being added too

Editing I haven't tried but just wanted to add that by the time the G2 thread is as long as the G thread was it will take so long to reach the last post that no-one will bother even in that! Hope everyone is ok

Funny you should say that, Safia. I emailed the Link Maker helpdesk earlier about exactly that - if G2 gets to greater than 80 pages or one post, as G did, then they are in trouble. Got a bland "blah" statement back. I think that they may be a bit overwhelmed. I will monitor, in a good way!

Good evening all. I've been reading along since the move to the new forum, but not posted until now, mostly due to the faff of getting logged in, then navigating back to the right place. I'm sure at one point this thread was showing as 4 pages, but now it seems to be all on one and I just have to scroll a LONG way down. Shame there isn't a way to get straight to the last post (that's how the old forum was right?). Anyway, going to make an effort to try and post a bit more than usual for the next few days as I read the forums regularly, and will miss them if we can't encourage more people back on!

Hi sorry for my absence, we had last minute funeral plans to sort out as the funeral is tomorrow, I am not going DH is. DH has lunch today at work, he was visiting my office for an interview and when he’d finished he joined me and my colleagues for a pub lunch.

No news from the hospital, on the plus side I have collapsed for a few days so that’s an improvement. Sticky is still trying to control everyone, I realised yesterday that I’ve given up trying to negotiate with her anymore it’s literally she plays up, I sit her on a chair in the room I am in and leave her there. Every time she moves I sit her back and carry on with my jobs until I’ve finished then we move. I am not sure how good a punishment it is, it just means I know where she is.

i need to sort out WhatsApp, I’ll give it a go tomorrow, as I am working at home for half the day.

I am still confused by this new forum...

..but anyway - big hugs createamum, hope no more recent collapses means you are the mend.

Whatsapp is very fab & deffo needed - would love real life chat.

Re this forum though - I do worry that new adopters will miss out on experienced adopters posting. Especially with the faff of it all. Where are Larsti? Haven? Pear Tree & Donatella to name but a few?

Just to say Camelia is Donatella and Serraunda is here and Ford Perfect, Chestnutree, Rocket, Aboutyounow - don't know about anyone else who may have a different name - also some people only visit occasionally so might not be here yet - hope they turn up eventually too

Kettle on now. I have finally logged on. Thanks to those who were bold and found the glitches which I have been reading about before going on here. As with others missing those who have not continued posting unless they have changed their names. Glad Donatella is still here although with another name.

I finally got through the technical problems, although the biggest one was with confirming I am not a robot. I had to do it at least 4 times. Does this say something about me at the moment? On that subject, special wishes to fellow readers who are also in the final stages of anticipation of the pending SATS. Enjoyed a walk in bluebell woods this morning with DH in preparation for the eggshells to come.

Long scrolling no longer needed, the page numbers are back. Apologies for the inconvenience while they were gone.

Lovely weather this afternoon, it’s done nothing but pour down with rain.

as we’re all home this evening I am trying to decide on a nice family dinner, it’s so rare now adays to have everyone home. I am thinking I’ve got some lamb chops in the freezer, I could do them in a red wine sauce and serve with herb roasted new potatoes and minted peas. It sounds semi healthy and I think everyone will eat it.

I am still munching my way through my Easter eggs, I got six and I am rationing them to one a week, they last for ages.

i cant believe we’ve got another long weekend, I am trying to be positive and hope for the best.

Must say that this gets more painful by the day. However, we have progress. Apparently, although I am now an AUK member, I can't private message anyone unless they are a verified adopter (how this works with prospective adopters I don't know yet but presumably prospective adopters can also be verified). This from the Link Maker Helpdesk:

"I'm sorry if this has been explained badly to you. Basically you can't ever message public forum only users but you can message non AUK members but users will have had to be verified and clicked the full community features option. So if you have people you would like to chat to they can sign up for the full account but not have an AUK membership and you should be able to message them first."

My reading of this is that if you verify that you are an adopter (or, presumably, a prospective adopter - just my interpretation) by supplying the adopting LA name to Link Maker then I can message you. I found the verification process quick (overnight) and easy - I think that I just needed to supply the LA from where I adopted and ignored pretty much all of the rest of the questions. I *think* that I found this page when I clicked on the "Chat" link but I might be wrong on this as I've clicked on so many pages on the new site over the last few days and my poor brain can't keep up. Sadly (possibly because I am now a member) I can't find the page that asks you the community-based questions (sorry!).

When you have done this then I can PM you (because I am a member) and you can reply. Does anyone want to volunteer and a guinea pig?

Never say never is my favourite mantra. However, I'm on the verge of giving up with the forum. I can't even receive private messages as I've not been verified. As a grandparent, that is just not possible according to the linkmaker criteria. I did try to join auk as a member - i think it's a cause well-worth supporting - but can't do that either as I'm not an adopter, prospective adopter, foster carer, kinship carer or any other of the tick box options. I might continue to post, see how it goes... sigh...

Oh what a beautiful morning outside, chilly but lovely blue sky. Inside our house it’s like hurricane zone, Sticky is causing all kinds of problems, I am still wearing the heart rate monitor and my hearts going as fast as it would if I was put running and I am just sat on the sofa being screamed at. I hear you asking why this is happening, well it started 3 hours ago when I asked her to put her laundry away.

Perchance things are better for you today Createamum? I do feel for you - I know just what it is like ...

Cat Lady it just occurred to me that when I joined AUK I phoned the number on the site (01295 752240) and just paid over the phone. They didn't asked me for any personal information (like whether I was an adopter) as far as I recall just my address and payment details. Perhaps give it a go? I may be wrong but surely worth a try?

Quest advances one step further! Splendid idea Chick's Mum, will try that.

Createamum, hope the rest of your weekend gets better. My eldest granddaughter is near in age to sticky and emotions have been very much full on lately.

I am going to venture out into the garden to see whether any more seedlings have put in an appearance. Lettuce is slow but pumpkins are galloping away!

Right...

Thanks for letting me know Donatella's new name. Has Haven made it over too??

Chick's mum - I have just filled in the form to get verified by my la so fingers crossed it works & we can see if chat then works!

Happy Bank Holiday weekend everyone

Sitting on the sofa listening to silence, bliss, Sticky has gone to church youth group, two hours of quite, I am having a cup of tea and some Easter chocolate.

I gave linkmaker/adoption UK my agency details when we transferred over and still haven’t heard anything back from them. Who knows what’s going on with all this.

I am trying not to get stressed but but it feels like everything is on my shoulder at the moment, home, Brownies, work and church stuff. I’ll be glad when everything is over, roll on the summer holidays.
