None Hague Convention adoption

Amber June 25, 2021 14:54

Hello Everyone.

Whilst living and working in Liberia West Africa we adopted a little girl (5).

Even though the process in Liberia was quite exhaustive and included police background checks, social worker visits, financial reports and various court appearances before the adoption was approved by the courts Liberia is not a Hague convention recognised country for adoption so we need to get her adoption recognised here.

The adoption is classed as a de-facto adoption we believe or a local adoption.

Because of covid and the closure of our business and schools we decided to return to the UK. We are British citizens, have a 14 year old son and own a house.

In December my wife brought our daughter to the UK having been granted a Visa with the type D - Leave to enter the UK outside the Rules.

We are very worried. We need to ratify her adoption here in the UK but finding it difficult to get the correct information as to how best we start the process. We may need legal advise but it seems all the lawyers who may deal in with these kind of cases are in London and we are up North on Merseyside.

Does anyone have any information on this process that would help us. Or recommend a place we could go local to Liverpool to seek further advice.

Thank you all.
