pressy or not

Big boy had his birthday a few months ago. He invited 1 friend from his new secondary school out for pizza. In his birthday card his friend gave him £20 ( very generous but more than I may of given). Any way last week this boys mum rang me saying that they were away on holiday but it was this boys birthday and he wanted to have a catch up with my son.Big boy has now been invited over next week just for a catch up with his mate as they have not seen each other for a few weeks now.So my question is should he take a birthday card ( his birthday was over a week ago now) and should he put money in it.If he is going to a party or celebration then of cause he would normally take a card and gift, but there has been no mention that this is anything to do with a belated birthday celebration just a catch up that they had already agreed they wanted to do at some point in the summer holidays.Your input would be very much appreciated.

I would definitely give a card & money - keep on the good side of everyone!I can see lots of downsides to not giving him something but none to giving him a pressie - especially as he is a new friend for your boy (& looks like possible best mate too).

I think I would give a pressie too. But £20 is an awful lot - I would not necessarily give my adult friends a £20 present at the moment, let alone a child. I think teenagers often appreciate one of those credit card voucher things from places like iTunes, cineworld etc. Personally I think £10n would be OK, I think parents need to understand others' different circumstances.

Thanks for your thoughts. Think I may go for the cinema voucher, seeing as it is the holidays it will give him something to do.
