And so it begins...

After discussing and planning for about a year myself and partner have decided now is the right time to start our journey. We must have read everything there is available online and we are getting through our book list! We've already started mapping our family tree and support network aswell. Sunday was a great moment for us, we spent the afternoon answering about 100 questions we'd compiled. We did this individually and the compared responses on Sunday evening. This contained everything from ages, quantatity and sexes of children, aswell as our beliefs and values in parenting etc. We were both relieved how in tune our responses were, it feels like our prior theory work is paying off! Our first meeting is the 4th September. Although we've been together for 7 years we've only lived together for a year and a half (more circumstantial because I worked away for quite a few nights a week) I hope we are still able to proceed. Few more sleepless nights to go!!!

Guys you sound just like us! as we too did the individual answer thing before the first meeting. Its a really good thing to do as it allows you to question each other to a degree before ss come. The book i found the easist to read was Dan Hughes "building the bonds of attachment" "in deeply troubled children" i believe regardless of their past the whole loss and movement of our children will indeed make them deeply troubled so this for us was a great read. Are you cpd? Our children have been with us for nearly 3 years so if you need a chat then please feel free to pm me.Regards Hubelly

Good luck chaps !!!! I'm sure you'll find it an interesting, invigorating, frustrating, exciting, thought-provoking, fascinating and altogether bonkers experience. We certainly have done and are still learning every day, as we move towards our match. MartIanCats

Hi Simba01Congratulations on making the first step towards getting your family started!Myself and my partner are coming to the end of our assessment and are due to go to approval panel in November, our social worker (who is fantastic) thinks that if all goes well and no hiccups, then we could have our family as early as february.....now we are getting scared, but at the same time cannot wait!I found reading a book called "Becoming Dads" by Pablo Fernandez a really good read to which we can relate to in most parts, however, at the same time, it shows the ups and downs the "realistic" process of the adoption, but towrds the end i did shed a tear or two!Dan Hughes is also a very very good read too and would highly recommend it!We both wish you all the luck in the world!Regards
