Hyper-sensitive to clothing

Baz August 30, 2013 14:56
This morning my son (who has FAS)got in a state about the seam on the inside of his sock annoying him. I didn''t think much of it until this afternoon when he refused to put on a pair of trousers because he says the label hurts him.I know some of you have children who are very sensitive to clothing and wondered how old they were when it became apparent? My son in 5 years old.Bx

My dd was probably 7 when her sensitivities started. She is now 11.5 and over the worst.

My son is 9 and has been like it since he was quite small. He has lots of holes in clothes where once were labels.

DD2 is like this - she used to strip off when she first came to us at 3, now she is very fussy about what she will wear, which is fine, but is also starting to get stressed as she wants to look "trendy".Bop

My oldest with autism did have this problem when he was younger, I never gave it too much attention, if the label was big or thick material I took it out. Now at 12 I never hear him complain about labels anymore. But I have to say most days he chooses his own clothes now and he probably avoid anything what does not feel good. (I never take labels out now) I am alright with that as my second son can wear those nearly new clothes when he grows a bit taller. My oldest is generally very good in keeping himself and his clothes clean and without holes, this in contrast to the youngest who always has holes, missing buttons, dirty clothes. So good that he is second in line
