Adopting a stepchild

Hi all, new here.

I'm looking for some advice or stories from anyone who has adopted their stepchild successfully even though the birth parent has not agreed? My stepson Stanley is 8 and my fiance and I also have a daughter together, Florence who is 4

Any information woukd be much appreciated,
