Should I order the cot (sorry I know it''s asked so often)

Iddly July 26, 2009 14:50
We have been matched with a beautiful baby girl The plan is to have matching panel end of August with intros early Sept.I have fallen in love with a cotbed which has a 4-6 week lead time. Should I bite the bullet and order it (and the matching wardrobe, poor credit card!) or wait until after panel and buy one which I don''t like as much but doesn''t have the big lead time.I''m scared about making such a big purchase before panel but know I won''t like any others as much as this one.

I did wonder about that but as we have waited so long for the opportunity to buy/pick all this stuff that I've gone to town with my plans for the nursery decoration so would like to have one that matches anyway.I know from speaking to her FC that she's used to sleeping in different cots as they often take her away for the weekend to their holiday home or family. Her FC said she will sleep anywhere!Do you think it would be rude to refuse the cot if they do offer one?

I would think it highly unlikely that a cot would come with a child - specific large bits of kit tend to be on loan to FCs while they have a child, and will either be returned to SS or be kept by FCs until the next child comes along.Personally I would be most reluctant to make an expensive purchase before matching panel, just in case ( imagine how awful it would feel taking delivery of cot for a baby you don't have), unless the company offeres a full refund if you cancel the order.Best wishes, Queenie

YEP....Us too. 11 days to Matching panel and cot is up and ready as is wardobe, car seat and pushchair on order. We were exactly the same with the pushchair which is due to be delivered on the first day of intros so we had to order it early.milly1

Same here!! And one of the other reasons we bought before matching panel was the fact that we were starting intros on the same day as panel so not really much time to get sorted!

It's equally scary and exciting! My fingers keeps hovering over order. I've just read the site's T&Cs. I think I can cancel within 30 days and panel is just less than that so think I'll take the plunge

If it makes you feel good then you go for it. Buying bits and bobs is what makes the time go by just a little quicker for me.Good luck with everythingmilly1

to give u a different perspective we have been officially linked with a sibling group of three, we had matching panel and intros sept too but we had the rug pulled from under us on friday and after a meeting with s/w tomorrow it is likely the children might not be available for adoption and we might well pull out.if u are mentally prepared to put it away until the next time if something goes wrong then go for it. also check first if anything will be coming from the foster carer home, unlikely to be something as big as a cot but check first.hope it goes really well, keep us informed. xx

First of all congratulation for the match!! How old is the girl?I would not order as yet. Everithing can happen in this silly world of adoption but, at part from that, there is really not rush.If she is not coming with the cot just buy a travel cot for the time being. They are very usefull anyway and than you can order your nice furniture once all is really going ahead.Just a suggestion but......I know your feeling and I know how difficult is to keep it cool!!!Love RIRI

We've got matching panel in September or October and we've ordered a cot bed, dresser and the pushchair. We can change the delivery date and cancel before delivery for a full refund, they even said they would take the items back after I'd made them up as long as the packaging was still on the mattress.I know everyone feels differently about this but here's what I think is right for us, and I'm not saying that this will be right for everyone as you have to decide for yourselves:We'll have less than a week between matching panel and intros and I'd much rather really enjoy buying things at a slower pace now than rushing out to buy things one weekend and probably finding it all a bit stressful and getting things that I don't really want because that's all they have. Yes I know we run the risk of it all falling apart but I'd rather take that risk and enjoy this nesting time than not.Hope that all makes sense, like I say I think it's a very individual decision and I guess when it comes down to it you have to ask yourself whether you could cope with returning everything if the match didn't happen.Good luck with whatever you decide!
