Link families

reallove2014 July 10, 2015 09:37
Stage 2 assessments done, was given a link family (who have only recently had their child placed with them and they're having a tough time getting info from LA etc) and was told panel see kindly to same sex couples being with a link family of the same orientation (ok whatever) however, we've met them twice and not heard anything from them since despite texting them. Will it go against us at panel if this is a breakdown? We have another friend who is fab at providing us with info and what to expect who is now a single mum (not gay) and told us if we need anything then just to ask - she adopted her kids years ago! Anyone else had this experience? I'm just worrying that this may go against us if it breaks down - through no fault of our own :-(

People forced together in this way simply may not 'click' and/or it is a big ask of this family with a child recently placed to be expected to mentor/link with another family; I don't see how you can be criticised for the link family breakdown when you've tried your best to maintain the link; and they can't be criticised as they've got a lot on right now. I've never been asked to do this although I made connections with other adopters and those in the process and that was thought to be a positive. Would it have gone against me if I hadn't - not really, it was just a bonus. My friends didn't know anyone at all who had adopted and I'm sure that never came up other than probably that they would be open to the child/ren about being adopted; they were approved no problem recently and now have their family. You have your single mum friend which is great; it can't harm to build on other links though: perhaps ask your SW if there are any local groups who meet up / Adoption UK may have some in your area.

Hi Knight Thank you - will discuss with SW if nothing changes :-) - NFS have local things going off in our area so will keep an eye out of there :-)
