How to do we find out more medical info?

Hello all, DD has been home almost six years. As time has gone on, we have had more medical diagnosis and are now at the stage where we have applied for an EHCP for her and she has an autism assessment soon. When we met with the medical adviser from the LA before she came home, all was ok, but he said those words " Nothing can be guaranteed". But she was only just 4 , tiny and as she has got older, more has come out. Currently she has a diagnosis of Adhd, Visual processing disorder (VPD), possible Fasd and learning difficulties. Birth father is unknown, birth mother's health is sketchy in the CPR and I feel that we haven't been told all the info. What can I do to gain more information prior to her adoption?? I have phoned the LA from who we adopted through, but they haven't replied. Any advice would be gratefully accepted. We are starting to think about secondary schools and as we have battled for support for years ( hence the EHCP application) I want to get it right for DD. Many thanks for reading... Swimchic

This is one of the major failings in the adoption system. As medical records are private there is nothing you can do to get medical history from Birth family if they don’t want to give it to you. Your child’s existing medical records should have been combined under her new NHS number. I would suggest sitting on the LA until you get a response is the only conventional course of action. Unless of course you know the BMs address. You could always contact her directly and ask. There is literally nothing stopping you dojng that.

Have you asked to see your daughter's medical records? Ask your gp. But you are not entitled to anything about the birth parents. You could ask for her to be referred for genetic screening

You might be better to ask specific questions of SW/BM if you have anything specific in mind as what you need to know might not be covered in the medical records anyway - they might respond better that way too especially if you emphasise you need the information for further investigations to help your daughter
