Moral support needed

I have broken a tooth tonight and know it will need to be replaced by either a crown or bridge. I HATE the dentist. I am good and go regularly but still doesn''t help. I know the work needs doing as will only get sore and infected but want to hide in a coner and not come out.Am also aware kds will be watching and Mummy has to show them the dentist is not scary at all but very nice.My duvet is calling me to go hide under it!

What do you hate about the dentist?Try taking some rescue remedy before you go I don't particularly like having treatment but the last time I had a crown I did lots of deep breathing and closed my eyes and pretended I was warm and sunny

Hi MustbemadWe went on holiday last Saturday and as I took a bite of a crisp, of all things, that evening, in our holiday cottage, well, a huge chunk of tooth fell out! So I completely sympathise. I am going to see my dentist on Wed to get it fixed. Thing is, the same thing happened about six months ago and the dentist tried to put a sort of veneer or sth on it and this is what has come away. She did say it might not work but we'd try it.So now I think I am going to need something like a crown......Will let you know how I get on. Mine doesn't hurt by the way - it just looks very black!

Mustbemad, can you get someone to watch the kids for you while you go?? Am sure you will put on a brave face, but it's another stress you don't need.

Hi, really know how you feel, I used to be terrified too. However, really you can get over it. I always paid to be sedated and tbh I never knew what had gone on, just left feeling dazed. Expensive though. I then changed dentists and she is brill. V calm, explains everything and goes slowly and over time I have lost that feeling of being petrified. Some tips, get appointment first thing - less time to worry!Secondly tell them you are scared,Thirdly as you sit there concentrate on thinking of sth bad that has happened to somebody and how they have got thru it, I then think if they can get thru that I can get thru half an hour at dentists. I had a crown done last week. It was ok. The first time you go they will give you an injection. If you don't like those ask to have the numbing gel first. You don't feel the injection then at all. Tbh this is nothing other than a slight scratch. They then may do the impression of your tooth which is painless and some drilling which never hurts. The second visit for the fitting I was not even numbed up, she just glued the crown on.Good luck, you can get thru this xx

bless you, you have my full sympathy. Yes do try and get somebody to look after the children and then you can just concentrate on you. The dentist experience is not pleasant but for me, it's never as bad as I think it will be .Take care x

I hate it too :-( without wanting to put anyone off, my dentist dislocated my jaw when I was 18 doing a filling and unsurprisingly it's been an issue for me ever since...
