Anyone know what to do about old injury scars that have become more promenant with growth. Kids at school making remarks, that sort of thing. Thanks

My AD has some slight scars on her face from her time in her birth home. Somehow in our house scars have become a bit of a badge of honour, with my As being jealous of them and wishing he had some! Without knowing the story, I suppose what I'm wondering is if they can't be hidden or treated in any way (and someone may have some suggestions), whether there is any way that a sense of 'ownership' of them can be fostered - a badge of survival, something along those lines? xx

My goddaughter has scars on her chest from a burn she had at 2 years old, and her leg from the skin grafts. She has always used creams to help with the appearance of the scars but to be honest she tries to keep them covered as much as possible. She always wears high necks for example and never short skirts. can you keep them covered ? I just did a quick google and there are lots of creams and serums out there which might be worth investigating. My god daughter is 20 now, her scars are much improved, a lot of it is down to the specialist skin care

There was something my daughter was discussing with her make up lady pre wedding - I’m not sure what - but some sort of oil that can be applied to get rid of scars (though we’re talking about minor things here) so it might even be worth asking a pharmacist or even a beautician at Boots or something

Bio oil is supposed to be good, don't know if it works.

My birth daughter got horrendous scars from chicken pox. We used bio oil for a few months and it did seem to make a difference

My AS partridge has a lot of scars. Some from cigarette burns. Others from other burns. Some from old injuries. He used to show them off as evidence of his awful life and then I have to go & explain he’d got them pre coming to us. This mostly happened in his mid to late teens as he wanted girl attention and this was a ‘good’ way of getting it. PS partridge wanted to know where his scars came from and there wasn’t much info around that at BF we’re very tight lipped. Maybe try to get a FOI request into the health service about where and when the injuries occurred and how they were treated.

Thanks folks. Pear Tree - I have never had any luck getting info from dr. In the case of one of our kids, he has no medical info from pre coming here, despite us AND him writing to the surgery - we got told he had to do it himself, he never got an answer. He would need to follow it up himself and , while he is rather annoyed by the situation, has too much else in his plate to be bothered chasing a will o the wisp? Both mine know pretty much what happened to them from memory and can take a fair guess at the rest.

Twirl has quite a few scars from self harm, which she sometimes covers quite effectively with DIY henna patterns. Just a thought. Depends on the gender of your child, and how flexible the school is about such things.

There is a cream called Kelocote you can buy or you could ask your GP. You apply the tiniest smear and they say if you can see it then you are applying too much. It helps to soften and take the redness out and works really well. It is used a lot in hand injuries and burns. We use it at work and it is very good.
