thinking of adopting again

maggiemeik May 8, 2010 19:46
we''re thinking of adopting again - our lo has been with us for nearly 2 and 1/2 years. As we are mixed race - i''m half chinese/half white, other half white - just wondered how many of you out there are looking for a similar mix. i know when we were looking for a match last time there were a number of us with similar ethnicity so wondering if we''ve all been matched and if there are any new families out there.just trying to get a realistic picture of how long we may wait for the correct match.

HelloJust thought I would touch base with you. We are just about to start our prep course/assessment. We are a mixed race couple- I am white and DH is Chinese. We are with a VA as our LA were very unenthusiastic about our chances of being matched at all. The VA seemed more positive. I have no idea how long it will take or what our chancs of being matched really are. How long did it take you the first time?Best wishesRakil

hi rakil - pleased to meet you!we were approved in the february and matched in the following january.as soon as we were approved our sw put us on the adoption register and local consortium as they said our la did not have a significant chinese community so we were unlikely to get a match locallyour sw also sent flyers to the areas in the country which do have large chinese communities. from that we got 2 possible links - although bizarrely our child came from our La in the end - not an exact ethnic match, but in the right area if you see what i meanlooks wise we're perfect though!i was in contact with a few families with similar ethnicity mixes on these boards. we had all been told what a valuable resource we were but all took a while to get matched - although in the scheme of things - 11 months isnt long - although felt like it!good luck - and keep in touch!

Hi, we are your exact ethnicity - husband half chinese/half white, I am white. We have been approved for about 2 months with no links yet. We have been told by our LA that they are unlikely to have any ethnic matches, but are looking at white children for us. We are looking on CWW and BMP, and are going to the national register event next week in London. We have no concept of how long to will take us to be matched - but just thought I would say hi!

hi there! dont panic they do come up, but slowly! our bc are all different colours from blonde with blue eyes to dark brown with dark brown eyes! our ac is not an exact match but looks like me! our sw was good in that she would look at children with similar ethnicities and /or looks.we waited 11 months from approval to matching panel - so not long in the great scheme of things, but any wait is awful.while waiting we had 2 possible links of chinese / white mix children - out of area.our sw sent flyers to all areas which have large chinese communities - ie the big cities. we were also on the national register and on the local consortiumbizarrely our ac was born in our la (perhaps that's why they were less obsessed wiht exact ethnicity as it saved them money!keep in touch!

hi there! well i was keen to adopt again but other half wasnt as keen. after circumstances/ discussions - he came round to the idea and we had an initial visit from our sw at end of October. we decided to apply and sent it in on the sunday. on the wednesday our sw rang to say that they had a link for us, but wanted to move fast. so the home study took a month - we were approved at beginnning of december and we go to matching panel early in january. we had hoped to have her home for christmas but for various reasons it was delayed. cant believe how fast it's gone - nearly there.our new lo is half white / but other half unknown but looks like me!it does happen - sometimes quicker than you think.
