Alternative

Any ideas what we can substitute coconut milk for. My son is cooking chicken curry at school , one of the ingredients is coconut milk , but he is allergic to nuts and coconut is one of them. I was thinking he could take either natural yoghurt, cream or soured cream. Which do you think would be a better alternative. Thank

I would vote for yoghurt but it needs to be a full fat thick one eg greek yoghurt. Low fat splits and goes bitty. He may need to add it at the end of cooking rather than the beginning. I googled nut free curry - and got loads with cashew nuts and coconut milk in them!! Not a good search

Thanks , I know I looked as well but it gave other nuts or nut milk as alternatives.

I would be very reluctant to let him eat it, my concern is it may get mixed up with another child's cooking, or the cooking equipment may have traces of nuts on them from other cooking sessions.

Oat milk cream. It's available in Tesco/Waitrose/Health food shops. I used it a lot when my child was on exclusion diets for dairy and soya allergy.
