Anyone want to share a house in London? (Prospective Adopter)

CZBCZB December 2, 2013 16:40
Hi I'm just starting the adoption process, but one of the difficulties I am facing is living in London and having enough room for a child. I am wondering whether there is a forum or anything similar where prospective single mothers can get together to pool resources? It would be great to hook up with someone who was perhaps at a similar stage to me in the process (ie at the beginning!) Please let me know if you have any ideas about this - good or bad! I would love to be able to share a house with another prospective adopter and bring two adopted children under one roof! If you have experience of this, or you live in London and you think this could be a good idea - please post your ideas! Thanks....

To be honest I can't really see social workers supporting such an idea. On paper I can see how attractive the idea might sound but if you really think about it, it would be fraught with difficulties, house shares are difficult at the best of times, without the added complication of adoptive children thrown in, if one of you were approved and matched before the other, I can't see social workers being happy with another unrelated person in the house and for the second person trying to settle a new child into a household with another unrelated family in it would be a nightmare. Sorry but I think its a non starter

I can't see how this could work. If there are two adults sharing accommodation then you'd both have to be part of each other's assessment. Introducing one traumatised child into a household is tough; introducing two children who don't know each other, who will have different trauma histories, etc etc etc ......... Would be very difficult for a child to cope with. Plus, of course, you'd need 4 bedrooms - how affordable would that be?
