It's Fri-YAY or Fri-NAY - lets celebrate

Well, it may be Yay or it may be NAY - and with the summer holidays around the corner for most - a time to think of transitions, keeping the kids occupied, stocking up on the selfcare items, including chocolate, beer/wine, caffeine related products and much much more.

So, as it is Friday, I wanted to start a wee thread looking at the ups and downs of everyones week, celebrating all the successes, and of course, commiserating/supporting the less than successful. So here is mine:

Success: After 5 years we now have a diagnosis for J... with the support required to at least attempt some of the repairing that is required to see him become independent in his adult years.

Less than Successful: He knows about the diagnosis and is well aware of what it means, but it does not stop his attitude and aggressiveness, which is really quite upsetting at times.

The weekend: A lay in, some family time, and maybe, just maybe some wine!!

success

parents evening. So proud I could burst. This is a child who was in special education working below national curriculum levels seven years ago. His teachers are stunned by his progress over the last year. Maths teacher said if he put his mind to it he could achieve a 6. His target last year was 4. He is the school leader for sport. He is just a star.

After sending several jet propelled rockets we now finally have some positive movement on a child close to our hearts currently in residential care. I have fought long and hard, I think we may just get the outcome I've been fighting for.

The weekend

taking Simba and a group of mates for early birthday treat to an Escape Room, followed by pizza and ice cream at home.

Cleaning before very important visit next week

An interesting week for various reasons!

Middly had his y10 work experience which he split between his school’s art department - teaching y7s - and our LA planning dept. He spent today touring big building projects and wind farms, complete with hard hat, hi-viz and boots! And had a ball.

Dd is proper excited about forthcoming holidays - and happy excited rather than anxious excited. A familiar place, pool, Wi-fi for them, kindle and gin for me ?.

Mixed with sadness as their much loved teacher is retiring so a new face when they return to school. Me being me, I have vetted ... turned up on a day I knew replacement was visiting ?.

And big one away for another week so food in the fridge, glasses in the cupboard and a fresh smelling bedroom!

All good, all calm. One more week in school and we’re done.

And good luck Serrakunda. I hope all works out for you all xxx

Successes - well I managed to get my 8yo through 4 pages of Maths this morning, which always counts as an achievement. This afternoon, with much supervision, he has made a quiche! It's smelling lovely in the oven right now ? Not sure about the weekend yet ... there's a kite festival we might try!

We had another success this afternoon..... J packed all his stuff for next weeks camp he is going on... I didn't even have to get involved. Does that mean that he is looking forward to the week away from us do you think?! ?

Successes: got Sqk to sew on a badge at Beavers last night - much to my shock as well as the leaders (neither of us were expecting that result). Plus news that new teacher will not be new at all but his current teacher moving from year 3 to 4 (very unusual I am told by other parents with much longer connections to school).

Less successful: dealing with a tired end of termitis child who has also decided to grow in last month (after not doing so for 9 months). Keep losing my TP hat - mind you my autism has been kicking off recently thanks to impending changes at work (no more than my son do I like change).

Weekend: adoption celebration tomorrow afternoon for LA we adopted through --- still live in same sub-RAA but moved LAs now. Then our annual posh meal out for us to celebrate birthdays, anniversary etc. Husband's birthday start of next week & Sqk's at end......

Good luck Serrakunda - hope it all works out as you hope.

Success: year 4 class assembly C joined in and sang his little heart out even managed some fancy dress this year. School very happy (and me very proud) of his success. C is looking forward to year 5 and is delighted that his excellent teacher from year 4 (and year 2) is going to be his teacher for year 5. Can not stress how important this continuity has been for him and I know how lucky we are. (Note to self must start lobbying for same teacher for year 6 ?)

Less success: ongoing battle with technology and C’s obsession with minecraft!

Aim for summer: At least 2 conversations that are not about Minecraft or Star Wars - am I being over ambitious?

I hope can be less cryptic this time next week, but there will be much I cannot say in public. Some people here do know the full story, Its been a long battle, nearly a year now. Whats happened in the last few months is absolutely shocking and is a perfect example of how children's services are just on the point of collapse. If we manage to resolve things for this child all well and good but what about all the children out there who don't have someone to shout for them.

Hi Serrakunda I wanted to sympathise with your battle, to congratulate you for keeping up the battle. We have had to battle with lots of professionals and felt at times it was hard to keep going. Feeling more positive now as what we have achieved seems to be giving a better prospect for the challenging transition. I too have felt sorry for the children with similar problems who have not had someone to fight for them.

Hoping for you that things can be resolved for your child and hoping you have some time over the summer to get some kind of break to relax.

So So Proud ?

End of school year awards...

To my delight boys both got their fair share ?

Baa.... merit badge & 5th highest in whole school for the 'hill' run this year... Also to my greatest joy the boy many staff considered the most helpful & polite commendation award ?

Skweek.... Highest score ever year 7 all time award for most hill runs.... 2nd in the whole school this year for most hill run's..... ?

To say I was delighted & so so very proud is the greatest ever understatement ?

The school hols start now xxx 8 weeks to re-coup re-group & move forwards.... Good Luck to all if you are expecting year end awards xxx
