Changes to Adoption Today Group listings - England

ScottC-R July 6, 2015 18:20
Dear all. I am writing to advise you of some changes to the next edition of Adoption Today. As you are aware we are always striving to improve the information that we share and how we share it, and it has been decided that the sensitive information within the centre pages will be removed and transferred entirely to our website. What does this mean for our members? It will mean that our members can access our website for up to date group and coordinator listings. Adoption Today centre pages will inform our membership of this change in the next edition, and will provide the information required to be able to access the website. Anyone who is unable to access the information through the website, we still have the lists, which we will circulate should anyone wish to have a paper copy. Please contact myself and Beryl and we will make the appropriate arrangements. What does this mean for you? The sensitive information (your details) will be more secure for people who are non-Adoption UK members and there will no longer be a need to remove the centre pages for external circulation. A number of the AT pages will now be specifically for the 4 nations within the UK. We will be able to feature YOU and your groups more in this section, particularly when new coordinators join us, or if any coordinator wishes to be featured in these pages. You will no longer have to forward your group information by the AT deadline. You can now do this whenever you need to, and Beryl will update your section of the website when you send updates to her. We will forward to you each month the Group Coordinator listings, so that you are able to provide these locally, however we are aware that the cost of printing these is a cost to you, therefore Beryl and I are happy to organise members without internet access. We do appreciate that this change may not be suitable to some of our members, especially if they do not have access to the internet, therefore, be assured that the paper list is still available to them. At this stage can I ask that you collate the details of anyone rather than referring the member to Beryl. As always, we appreciate your assistance in providing our members with the support that they need, and I would like to thank you for your continued help. Best wishes Scott Casson-Rennie Senior Regional Manager Development Team - England Telephone: 07932 775466

I disagree with removing the Co-ordinator Section from Adoption Today completely. To me that just says that support groups are not a priority. We have a Hotmail account so we didn't give out personal contact info in the magazine anyway. There is no need to include the actual events. I think Adoption UK should be fighting to increase the profile of the support groups as going into the future we will be competing with other groups (ie peer to peer) which is getting easier with the use of technology.

I agree that the independent support groups offered by Adoption UK are a great strength of our organisation; however I also appreciate that certainly here in Wales we don't have funding to run groups. We are continuing to run our existing and successful groups on a shoestring and they are highly valued by members. There is something VERY different about offering/receiving face-to-face support compared to the support received in the many, many online forums, discussion groups, etc that are popping up everywhere.
