Any LGB adopters with non resident BC?

bub1 January 8, 2010 15:19
Hi - I have a 4yr old BD - who lives with her BM and her Non Bio Mum (they now live apart and BD divides her time with both of them.) She has a non bio brother who lives abroad with his BM and she sees him 4 times a year for extended periods of time - so she shares him with her non bio Mum.Still with me.......She visits my partner and I fortnightly for 8hrs - we hope to increase this to over night visitation soon - but I have difficult relationship with BM - we are working through this........Her Mums have met our SW and is no problem - they are happy to support our BD - in all that us adopting will mean.Im aware that when we are matched it may will/raise issues for BD - why does she not live here etc etc.......Im also confident as she already has alternative family set up - that some of this maybe easier for her to accept. We are going to panel in June - so is more than likely that we wiil not be matched with any children until 2011 at the earliest by which time BD will be around 5 and a half.We are hoping to adopt a child/sibling group - we have been told that as BD does not live with us that the child should be a year younger rather than two years. We have discussed this with SW and have agreed that no need to introduce adoption to BD till after panel and prob more at the time of matching.Anyway if you can get your heads around all that - any thoughts, advice, stories etc would be great. Thanks Jack
