Possibly crazy?

Haze May 18, 2013 18:58
I am slightly bemused to be confessing this but we are seriously considering adding another dog to our menagerie which currently stands at 3 cats, a 2 year old labrador and our ADs.We''ve been tossing a round the idea for a while & today I have approached some breeders about puppies which would be ready in time to join us for the summer. We are somewhat afraid of upsetting the apple cart amongst the animals who all get along brilliantly but are also aware that our dog is in need of doggy company and is at a good age to go ahead with it.I suppose we will have to see what transpires!

Possibly crazy? Definitely!!! Haha. However there must come a point at which one more living creature in the house won't make that much difference??

We have one dog and are presently looking after our daughters 2 budgies and 2 ferrets. We have always had 2 dogs and since one passed away 3 years ago the family have been wanting to get another dog. I've resisted until a friend found a stray and put photos up on facebook a couple of days ago. I have to admit I was very tempted to add him to our home. She's passed him onto the local warden kennels so I am making enquiries to register an interest if he's not reunited with his owners. Not sure if we should take on another dog but he was soooooooo cute!

We've had 2 dogs for about 1.5 yrs. They are such good company for each other. Often found with one resting his head on the other one's back. Very cute.Biggest issue for us is going away. I could palm 1 off to my parents but 2 is a different kettle of fish! How exciting!

I come from an animal-centric family and don't think you're crazy at all!We had 3 dogs at one point (when I was younger) - no cats though then. Two dogs aren't that much more work than one... just more poop to scoop...

We have one dog and much as I would like another the cost of kennels/ vets fees/insurance etc. is just too much. My step daughter has taken in Ex racing Greyhounds for years but now has 2 cats and 3 greyhounds in her 2 bed terrace + large hubby. When she got the 3rd dog she told us that she couldn't have us all come at once to visit we were only welcome in twos! which is near impossible since she is in London and we are in Scotland. We haven't been for 2 years now.So I think there can be too many animals in one house.

We have 3 cats and a dog (and foster cats in 2 pens in the garden)and I am tempted at times to have another dog as we have enjoyed having 2 dogs in the past.So I don't think you are crazy! We think of our pets as a hobby as we don't get much time to pursue hobbies outside the home. We don't drink or smoke either so pets (and books) are our extravagance. The thing that prevents us having another dog (apart from DH being more sensible than me!) is that our dog is so good (and we have had some daft rescue dogs in the past) that we don't want to upset the apple cart. Also we regularly visit 2 families with one dog each and the dogs get on pretty well, if we had another one, I think the dynamics would be very different.Keep us posted about your menagerie Haze

Phew, so definitely crazy but not mad then? ;-)We too are afraid of upsetting the apple cart as our dog is simply amazing. With this in mind we are considering a golden retriever rather than another lab - DH said so that if it is naughty he blame it on it being blond!!!Litters are due in the next few days so we will no more after that...

My nan always had retrievers. They have been very variable in terms of brightness! But all very soppy (though I'm more of a lab girl myself). She now has a yorkie and a labradoodle, both rehomed, and walks them every day. She's 94 - I'm convinced the dogs have been wholly beneficial for her good health.

We took my ADs to meet the owner and the dogs & litter today. Our pup is a boy and was so mellow this morning - probably due to the heat! My girls were completely smitten and it was so nice to see them both smiling for a change. We will bring him home at the end of July and then the fun will really being!
