update on mtg with HT

lazygirl November 4, 2011 14:44
Further to my previous post, met with HT yesterday. She backed the CT for the most part i.e it wasnt that DS couldnt do the work but he refused to do it and needed a consequence - since this detention he has done all of his work at school so hey presto it worked! She did concede however that she maybe wouldnt have kept him in for 2 breaks in a row - stop the front page HT admits teachers not always right!!!However, for all you teachers out there children are allowed to be left on their own in classrooms as long as you do a "risk assessment" so now you know!DS had ADD yesterday but school have already told us that even if he does get a diagnosis all children have to adhere to the same discipline and standards in their school.Roll on secondary school!

Just checked with DH (year 5 teacher) and he agrees with me (secondary teacher) that there is no way either of us would leave a child in the classroom unattended! I have never heard of a rule which says you can with a risk assessment either. Your son's school sounds very unsupportive I hope you see an improvement soon.

A risk assessment to leave a child alone in a classroom - that's bl**dy ridiculousno teacher i know would do that or leave a child alone in a classroomi constantly risk assess for other things but i would never leave a child alone as IMO it's bad practiceif i were you i'd ask to see the risk assessment suze x

a risk assessment won't stop accidents/incidents happening it just shows that you have thought about the risks and what you would do to minimise them for being left alone in a classroom surely to minimise the risk you wouldn't leave a child alonejust a thoughtsuze x
