Hi all,As the subject heading says we have our first meeting tomorrow with our social worker, very nervous but excited too. Is there any questions I should be asking? I know it''s late but any tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance
Hi Izzy....just a thought but if that's your real name you may want to change to less identifying, especially as you get further down process & may post some identifying stuff So...not clear if you mean first meeting with introductory SW or you've been on prep and your allocated SW.....assuming your first get-to-know-you-meeting, and not been on prep yet?? If so...it's just that - idea on why you want to adopt, any age group/siblings your interested in, your history...just general to figure out 1) you have 'right' attitude ie adopting to meet child's needs not your own and 2) where they can place you in their list ie if interested in harder to place, & you are already realistic/well prepared, if you meet the 'target' adopter they particularly need...Don't worry too much....show them you're 'In the right place' emotionally, have considered/researched, are flexible, transparent....If your allocated SW....much the same really!!! What you enjoyed most/learnt most from prep; TBH you'll find the questions flowing quite naturally.....just remember, although important to be honest & transparent, also should be wise ie I gave chapter & verse on 1 thing trying to be honest as poss, only for it to become an 'issue' later in...read as much if these boards as you can, itll give you some tips as to what I mean!! Hiwell appointment went well, was our initial hello how are you meeting so was friendly and relaxed. Preparation course in sept. As you said Taliesin was just a general think what age group, how many etc and just a quick run through the process. The sw that was here today has not been assigned to us, was just doing our initial visit, she's lovely though so I'd like her to be our sw. I downloaded a book onto my kindle about adoption so I'm just going to read that & look forward to the preparation course. P.s. izzy is not my name but I understand you saying to me, thanks.
