Support before and after Adoption Order

brighteststar September 27, 2017 20:50
Hi everyone, I have a date now for a court hearing for the AO next month but LO has regressed somewhat behaviour-wise of late and I am concerned that we may need more support (we don't have any particularly at the moment except social worker visits). I have seen various forums and been given advice from two adopters that I shouldn't go through with the AO as I will have even less chance of help if I do. Can anyone tell me if this is true? My social worker is adamant that this is not the case, and that each child is entitled to £3k a year from the Adoption Support Fund whether they are still under a Placement Order or the AO has been passed. Could anyone advise please? Thank you very much for your help.

with regard to the Adoption Support Fund, not sure where she gets a figure of £3k from. ASF is capped at £5k but thats very different to there being an 'entitlement'. You have to apply, and its for specific therapies. In theraputic terms, whilst something is better than nothing, £3k is a drop in the ocean. I had funding before the cap and we had signifucantly more than that and my son, whilst he has his challenges and we needed what we got, is by no means the most problematic child in adoption world.
