One of Josh MacAlister's recommendations in the Independent Review of Children's Social Care was to make being care experienced a protected characteristic. This would provide protection against discrimination and requirements on public bodies to tackle inequalities for care experienced people.
The Children’s Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza, has now made a public call and wants to know whether or not children in care, care experienced people and others (such as adopters) think care experience should become a protected characteristic, and why. It will only take 5-10 minutes to share your views, it is a very short survey.
Obviously, the more people respond the better. Those with older children might want to pass this on to their children too.
