just wondered if DLA is paid for difficulties around supervision of a child to enable support to their right to a family life. Incase of 3 kids one of whom may have adhd / Foetal alcohol effect just getting meds.Hejust can't be left alone for any time with sibs. as behaviour is erratc and can be agressive. thanls in advance for any experiences ofthis. I have looked at website from govt but its not so specific.

Yes you can I think it is worded something like- they need substantially more looking after than a typical child of the same age My DD needs constant supervision and we get DLA. You need to put specific examples in for the claim, if there is anyone who can help it is useful. The diagnosis is less important than the actual behaviour

We get DLA for our now teenager for the additional support my child requires and additional supervision. I had a report from a therapist that I sent that assisted in the application, but a GP, teacher, social worker or nursery could write something to back up your claim.

A lot depends on the age of the child. So you might not get it when the child is a toddler because all children of that age need a lot of supervision, but when the child is say 8, that could look a lot different. You don't need a diagnosis to get DLA but it does help. It's more about explaining the additional needs. You can request a pack from the DWP and you can see the sort of questions you are asked. A lot of people get help filling it in - it is quite detailed and you have to present a very depressing picture to get the money. But if you are successful you get DLA for the child and potentially carers' allowance for the carer.
