children with disabilities

FIM May 26, 2014 22:36
I can't find the forum that used to exist for adopters who have children with disabilities. I used to be a regular user but not so much these days so may have missed the reason it's been removed. Any ideas?

Yes I miss it too, for some reason it was thought we didn't need it!! just when more and more adopted children are being diagnosed with ADHD, ASD, FAS etc.!

Where have the previous posts gone? Are they under 'adopters' or 'difficult times' or somewhere else?

I do need it! Our son has ADHD+a whole host of other labels and I don't want to trawl through the general adoption boards when it's a disability issue! Please, please, please can we have this board back. It was quite well used on the old boards, but isn't always needed so does go through 'fallow' times but when you have an adopted child with disabilities and do need information you are already almost bald from tearing your hair out and this board was really helpful and easy to search. You often couldn't find anything using the main search as disabilities have lots of acronyms and slightly different terminology from one place to another , so being able to search through the posts on one board was very helpful. It's also psychologically hard to say you're having 'difficult times' when it's a mental health issue, as yes it is idifficult, but it's really a health issue and sometimes just a lack of information rather than a problem. I particularly found the advice on amusement parks and cinemas etc useful and hope that's not been lost.

I have just looked at the archive and there are a similar number of posts for education as for children with disabilities so as nobody is suggesting removing education boards because they are not being used enough I wonder why children with disabilities has been removed. Anyone know?

It would be very helpful to me as I am about to start intos with two little ones, one with a disability. I feel ok now about everything but would defiantly use it in the future.
