Adoption camping weekend

greyspeckledhen March 3, 2014 16:29
AUK have kindly given me permission to publicise the camp that I organise for adopters in May. It is in the Herefordshire/ Welsh border area but open to all adopters from anywhere (previously Scotland and Brighton so don't assume it is too far for you!). Please pm me if you would like more details. I've been organising it about 5 years and we tend to have about 100 people attend, a mix of people who have been before and people who haven't. It is open to all adopters with or without their children. For prospective adopters it is a fantastic opportunity to meet people already on their adoptive journey who may well then form part of their support network when they are approved and have children placed. It is a chance to relax, meet other adopters or prospective adopters, chat over the camp fire and offload while the children let off steam building dens and playing. It is mostly camping though if you don't have a tent there are some provided. No camper vans or caravans though - sorry. For non campers there are Travel lodge type options in the area, or you can make use of the on site tents and brave the camping experience! Please contribute to this thread if you have been before and can tell other people about it, but please don't mention the date or location!

Firstly apologies for the almost 2 month delay in posting this and secondly, as I'm not quite sure where to post this where it will be seen by all the relevant people, apologies for the multiple, duplicate posts... I just want to say a GREAT BIG THANKYOU to GreySpeckledHen, Mr GSH and Teenage GSH for organising the brilliant camping weekend back in May and for making me and Mr Dee feel so very welcome. Massive thanks also to all the friendly adopters (and the older adoptees) for sharing their highs and lows with us and for all the great advice. We were a little nervous about attending and, as prospective adopters, were a bit worried about being the only ones without children. To be fair, we were in the minority but it really didn't matter and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I think we gained more from that weekend than we have from all the training sessions and reading we have done so far as part of the approval process. I also got the impression that we scored a few brownie points when we mentioned it to our social worker! PS. Almost forgot to mention that it was also great fun and very good value for money :-) We are looking forward to next year's camp...

No but I might be staying at a near by site that takes campers, but not sure if I can park near by or get a bus, will take some research. How do we book if we're not camping just coming for the days?

I'd like to come this year, do we have dates yet, I tend to get booked up when the weather gets better so I'd like to keep the dates free.
