Aargh

All those small things. Like the way AS (11) makes his life so much more complicated than it needs to be as he cannot admit to not knowing something, even to himself. Last week, he asked if he maybe could get Minecraft for Christmas as a lot of his friends have it and it is really good. "Possibly", I said, "just find out what it costs and we can talk about it". "About £20 a month" he thought, which I pointed out is quite a lot. So I left him with instructions to find out more. In the meantime I had a look, and it is a one-off price like that, and there is a free demo without network multi-player options. This evening I suggested that he maybe should find out if there was a free demo version, as a lot of games have them and they allow you to play with some limitations - and if he checked the price he might even be able to just buy it from his pocket money (without letting on I had actually checked it out already :-) "I have an idea" he says, "maybe you can hold my pocket money back and.." which is where I interrupted him and urged him again to find out the facts before trying to offer solutions :(

It's just amazing how much more complex they manage to make their own lives...and ours in the process as well...
