Adoption day celebration

nomad December 12, 2017 22:33
We usually do something as a family to celebrate the anniversary of going to court to finalise the adoption. The plan for this evening was ice skating (the kids choice) and a meal afterwards) the adults choice. After looking at the times for the ice skating, a meal out before or after wasn't an option so I suggested a take away before we went. After a minor grumble we all agreed on fish and chips. DD and I braved the weather and fetched them, everyone happy and meant no-one was hungry when we went out. Kids were incredulous that I was going to join them on the ice - well over 10 years since I last skated. DH watched from the side lines. DD was worried I might hurt myself but when she saw I could actually stay upright ( I was clinging on to the side for a couple of circuits) She showed genuine empathy and concern. Both of the kids skated really well and amazed us. To see DS skate so fast and confidently. When he moved in at the age of 5 he was dyspraxic and walked wiith a toddler gait and his balance was awful. DH enjoyed watching us all. It was a lovely evening , full of triggers that that the kids coped with beautifully. Even coping with going back t school after 2 snow days off.

Thanks for the comments sorry for my late reply. It helps me realise how far we come as a family. Still got a long way to go but they are teenagers afterall.

Isn't it lovely when things go right :-) It sounds as if you had a lovely time together as a family and that is well worth celebrating, in my book (as in celebrating that your celebrating went well, if that makes any sense at all?). Well done to you and your DH and the young ones for making and recognising a very special day for you all. Peahen.
