We have 20 little beauties too, roaming free and happy.. love watching them lazing in the sun.We had a top up, as foxes had their share last year, but for the last couple of months no sight of the predators. I put them in the coop earlier not, and dont let them out till mid morning, as the fox came for late breakfast last time...The only problem now is I have way too many eggs- I give them to anybody that will have them..postman,binmen,teachers- and still surplus!!

We have 3 chickens - all 2 1/2 years old and gorgeous! cd junior loves them - he likes helping me to let the out of the run and feed them corn. At the moment (oh, joy of joys!) they've all got lice so I'm dosing them with stuff I got from the vet but hpefully that will be sorted soon. Yes, they trash the garden, but the eggs are out of this world - I've even had the odd double-yolker from time to time!

I have two and love them to bits. I have a problem though. My neighbour has 16 week old Bluebells for sale and I am soooo tempted. But would have to have 2, which might mean another coop, so am really trying to tell myself that the bank balance can't handle it at the moment!

Hilovelly to hear im not the only mad one having chuckles....though might be to quantity!!Well today it was lovelly to sit with them in th garden the first time without them all going crazy and jumpy.A couple follow me around ....quite funny.took some photos today -one was quite funny -kept coming up to camera.....got a funny head shot!!We lost one it ran away so very free.......everytime we turned our backs it was escaping.Im hoping it will return or else foxy might have got....We lost two more they hid instead of going into coop............we searched for coupl hours but alas no find....until am foxy got them. Most are settled and now go into the coop just one we have to keep finding now...They have redened up, feathers are starting to come through on some -some are still bald though!ohhhhhh and ive started to draw them too its fun trying to do their characters........

WowThis forum has it all, it's like a hypermarket of lifestyle info - I need go nowhere else ever!! I have 4 ex-batt honeys who've been with us since February. We've had our ups and downs and Lacey is still a bit dodge, but they've all got lovely fluffy knickers again after coming to us threadbare and traumatized.I did worry when our sw came that they'd disapprove of the chicken pooh + children combo, our garden is quite small and I do a poop scoop daily, but it seemed they could see the benefits of children growing up with animals around etc, plus the cake I baked them was obviously 'egged' by our own girls They are a lovely addition to my bonkers household and a little sit with them is a lovely way to unwind.Love to you and yoursM

Has anyone here seen the Little Chicken Rescue? They have a website, they rescue battery hens. I saw some hens that were being taken to their new home, I foster dogs, but can't have hens as well in the garden, but was very tempted!Regards, birdlady (the garden variety, not poultry!!)
