Hi and welcome.Mine took place during one full week, although others have had theirs at weekends or evenings.Mine was a mixture of couples and singles, about 14 of us altogether, and I was incredibly nervous at first but really enjoyed it. We really bonded as a group and some have stayed in touch. We were regularly split into small groups and couples were usually seperated so just be prepared for that. Also be aware that the social workers running it will be noting whether you appear interested, and open-minded, ask questions, listen to other people's views etc.Good luck!Papergirl x

It can be hard going as they push quite a lotbof difficult case studies etc to ensure you understand how tough life can be for these children. It is emotionally draining, I was shattered at the end of each day!Make the most of it. Join in - both of you if you are a couple (one couple on our course were rejected because one did all the talking so they had no idea what hubby was thinking). Ask questions. Be seen socialising with others, not just being insular as a couple. Remember the SWs are watching and their feedback is included in your PAR! Also I appreciate this isn't common, but the leader of my prep turned out to be my family finder. He has since told me as soon as he got the case file, he knew I was a perfect match and he was so right!

Hello & welcome xchrisx!!I posted our progress through prep course on the prospectives thread in Jan/Feb titled (I think!) day 1 of prep, day 2 etc...hopefully it'll give you a 'real time' idea...I know of the others also did and our experiences I'd suggest, were typical. The best prep we did before the course, was avidly reading the posts here (particularly the more experienced ones even though you should bear in mind there are some very harrowing experiences...); I made contacts through the forum and met other adopters to get idea of their day-to-day life....and read most of the suggested books (ill add that my dear hubby did no such thing and prob has far healthier approach to me !!!!)The training us enjoyable, hopefully you're make good friends - but personally & compared to others on our course, we got more from it, the more we prepped beforehand Talli x
