Research into how transition from foster care to adoptive placement affects a child

Just wondered if anyone had ever come across any research into how a child is affected by their move from foster care to an adoptive family.Am very interested in this subject (as a foster carer) as helping a child through this recently and the lack of consistency in advice to foster carers/adopters made me quite upset as everyone seems to "guess" at how to do the transition.FOR EXAMPLE: I asked a CAMHS psychologist and all they could say vaguely was "well they learned to attach to you so HOPEFULLY this should help in their attachment with their adoptive family.I asked my supporting sw about who recommends when/how often/if foster child should see foster carers after they move to their new family, she said that it was completely up to adopters and psychologists/sw don''t have a say in it (aren''t they meant to be the experts???)Child''s Independent Reviewing Officer recommended a 2 week transition. Our IRO recommended a 2 week transition, child''s sw decided that all 4 yr olds only needed one week, no discussion.Any thoughts? I would love to do some research around it (am doing my psychology degree) but obviously if there is some out there that would be good too. Thanks

i think that would be a really good topic for researchthe whole planning of introductions on a practical and emotional level is a minefield with very inconsistent practicewho supports the FCwho supports the childrenwho supports the adopterseveryone is dealing with huge stresses and emotions - some of which such as visits to schools or meetings with birth parents could be done at a later point so it is not so hecticno consistency in advice about adopters keeping things calm and quiet and reducing family visitorsno advice about keeping children home from nursery or school for a periodmight be worth you searching the journal contents on the baaf.org website as a starting pointgood luck with it

This would be a fantastic topic to research! I have heard such conflicting theories in the past and it seems every sw/adopter/foster carer believes something different - but again all based on their own opinion and not through evidence. Do share anything you manage to find/do
