My new business

I actually earned some money today - for the first time in 11 years! I have set up a business teaching people to cook in my home and I had my first customer today. It's all legit - approved by the council etc. I have had a nightmare with all the admin, but today was the first cooking session. I am shattered. But anyway, I had a lovely French girl round and we cooked: stew, stock and soup, fish fingers (fancy ones), cod and bacon wraps, baked salmon, filled jacket potatoes, guacamole and cheesecake. I am SO excited......... (but you should see the state of the kitchen!)

Do you take children also? I can sent my oldest to you a few weeks next summer holiday. He loves 'mama cook', and he can do the washing up afterwards unaided! After the cooking lesson every day he will be very happy to amuse himself with his ipad. He can also muck out your stables unaided! Sounds like fun your cooking class, maybe you should sent in a receipy every week on the boards and how to make them, than everyone can give feed back. Can you start with shepards pie and scones (the real ones) ? WHERE ARE MY SMILEYS? :-) :-)

How satisfying! I'm starting some unpaid voluntary work for the NAS after a training course in October. Partly terrified, partly looking forward

Flosskirk, that's great, I am in awe. I am also comforted as I haven't been in paid work for 9 years (loads of voluntary worrk but thats somehow not the same for your self-esteem) and I worry about how I will cope getting back into the workplace again some day. Yours is a very inspiring example. Loads of luck to you, I hope it continues to go well.

Brilliant Flosskirk. Sounds like it went very well, and you've succeeded in making me feel hungry after an already substantial supper.... good luck with it and hope the kitchen recovers.

Congratulations! So have you have to complete the level 2 food safety training or similar to be licenced to do this? Am curious as I have the qualification but for school as I have to monitor all the 'cooking mums'!

Hi everyone, and thanks for your lovely comments. According to my local council, I don't need to comply with food regs because the cooking is "for demonstration purposes only". It's like with pampered chef parties, where they make something and everyone tries a bit. I was surprised to be honest with you. Anyway, I have done the level 2 online and I also went on a first aid course, which I didn't need to do either. The best bit is this - during the three hour session yesterday we basically cooked our dinner (and more) AND I got paid for it!!
