Complicated Adoption...

Shirz July 3, 2012 21:36
Hi All,Am totally new to adoption, have been doing some research tonight on all the steps required. We want to adopt a close family member from a country on the designated list (abuse issues, has been taken into care with other family members who are unable to continue long-term, is under 10 yrs old) We already have a couple of kids (early teens, know what going on, very happy with the idea)We''ve met the child in question (obvs) and they are aware of (and happy with) the fact that we want to be their new mom, dad & siblings. We have lots of lovely happy holiday snaps of child with our kids, if it helps the process any.We are fully aware of what we''re getting ourselves in to, child is currently undergoing counselling & therapy in ''home'' country and we''re being kept updated every step of the way. If I''d had any say in it I''d have started the process 3 years ago, but had no proof of the problem, only suspicions Will any of this make the process any quicker for us, do you think? I''m going to contact PACT later this week to get the ball rolling, and somehow figure out how to find their £6000+ home study fee... but was wondering if anyone had any advice / experience to share? Thanks Shirz.

Have a look on kinship boards for advice about kinship adoptionsGet information about about trauma and attachmentContact your local SS to ask what support/advice they may offerWhile most auk members have uk adoptions, not all do, but a substational amount of us have had trauma issues that may be similar for your relative. Check your nhs provision for Camhs etcGot to go hope others can helpl

Thanks, will look at the kinship boards. It's all a little complicated because of the fact that little one is in another country As a citizen of that country I wish I could just go over and go through their courts for the adoption and then bring little one home to the UK, without having to worry about how to make the adoption 'legal' over here. As a kinship adoption within that country it would be a LOT faster & easier than all this multi-country stuff from over here
