Media threads...

Pix April 22, 2011 21:59
I think it would be really really useful to have a board where all the media based threads could go. Then when anyone wants to see how other people have reacted to programmes/interviews/radio show/newspaper articles on adoption they know where to go. I often worry about starting a thread on a programme or whatever because i suspect i''ve just missed one posted on a board i don''t usually read.

I think that is a very good idea!

Thankyou Pluto! I was thinking an 'Adoption in the Media' board would also be useful for AUK to flag up any interviews etc they had been involved in. Plus it would be a useful permanent resource.

Hmmm...not sure anyone at AUK reads these threads looking down the list.... not many replies to be had!

Good MorningThanks for your comments. Your suggestion has been noted for future development. There is a search facility that you can use to check if threads have already been started on specific topics and our Press Officer usually flag up media events that AUK are directly involved with - please feel free to comment on these threads.Alternatively, please use the Discussions board to comment or discuss Adoption related programmes or articles.May we take this opportunity to reassure you that our moderating team read every post on this forum but don't always have the time to respond to individual posts immediately.Best wishesOnline Community Team

But if you don't know the title of the media article then how do you know what to search for? If they were all in one place - even on the Resources Board - then it would make it easier to find them.

This was discussed a while ago, and suggested that instead of splitting people into groups (prospective adopters, adopters of children with disabilities etc..) that we split things into topic areas such as;New to adoptionAssesment and preperationPost approvalEarly monthseducationspecial needs/disabilitiesmediacontacttherapyetc... etc.....This would make it much easier to keep things 'in order' and know where you would find certain things. We get so many repeated questions on the boards that having this facility would make it lots easier. The search facility is okay but as people often use headings like 'aaaaahhhh' or 'advice needed' its hard to know what they actually are without trawling through all of them

I find the search facility is next to useless for looking for specific subject threads - unless you know the thread title, you can never find it. I end up doing an author search instead, and finding them that way - but again, this depends on you knowing the name of the person that started the thread.

I find the search option next to useless frankly. It would be far easier to find a thread if it was located under a logical topic. At the moment anything education/school related can be found under Adopters. Adopters is a huge board and you could trawl for weeks to find anything that you really, really want.Mumsnet does it better!

Yes, have never used the Search function successfully either. Starlights list looks like a good starting point for change. It really does seem pointless that you could have people discussing the same broadcast programme on 4 or 5 different forums on here without interacting at all. As an adopter i'm obviously going to hang out at the adopters forum but I might be completely missing the viewpoints of foster carers or prospective adopters on the exact same issue just because we all have our own thread on it.
