ADOPTING FROM MOROCCO

Salaams, we are in the process of adopting from Morocco, we have visited the orphanage and met the staff and carers (it was a wonderful experience), we are coming towards the end of our assessment and our social worker is endeavouring to take us to panel in November inshallah. We would like to reach out to anyone who has already successfully adopted from Morocco to further our knowledge of processes in Morocco. Jazakallah. Rabiya and Muhammad

You are probably the only one. Morocco does not allow traditional adoption only guardianship, as you know. In the usa the children than get adopted officially after coming home, is this possible in the UK? I don't know. Found on adoption.com that in 2010 32 children were adopted to the USA.

We have been told that there have been 10 successful UK adoptions taken place in Morocco, however we are finding it difficult to locate anyone (apart from one). We are now at a final stage in our assessment and have been given a panel date!!!

Hello,You may find that a specifically overseas adoption yahoo group like UKAO (UK Adoption Overseas) may be able to link you with other families who have successfully adopted from Morocco. Many countries also have their own e-support groups, too. You could try looking on yahoo groups for 'Moroccan Adoptions' and similar. I'll have a go myself and see if I can find anything. I do hope you can find some other families who are further along the road than you are - they will provide invaluable help and support.All the best with your adoption.alison123
