Work history

whizzywoo August 4, 2009 20:38

Hi, We are just starting the process of adoption and were just wondering how many years of work history is looked at? I have had a few jobs and can''t remember exact dates. There have been times where I had two jobs at one time. Does anyone know if inland revenue may have exact dates?ThanksWW

I dont think you have to be that precise. We both just put down approx months and years and certainly not dates for any except the most recent jobs.Good luckmilly1

That was the same for us too. I had 2nd jobs at varies times sometimes for short periods. I never actually included these, to be honest i had forgotten about them. If though it helps your application to adopt e.g working with children or in a caring profession then do include it.With us it was only our present employer that they contact, (we had been in the same employment for a number of years) and the rest was just to find out our experinces, skills or knowledge we had gained.

Months, even seasons (ie. summer 1990 - spring 1991) should be enough. What they are looking at is whether you might be a 'flitter' who flits from job to job, whim to whim every year. They are also looking for unexplained gaps in your employment history. My hubby is a contractor and changes jobs frequently sometimes, on rare occasions, two or three times in a year, but fortunately his constantly updated CV helped us keep track.Don't sweat over it, but it, your family trees from grandparents, and your chronology from birth are really useful things to get started on early.Midge

I always 'lump together' the part time and temporary jobs I had up until I was about 25, and list them in a sentence. the 80's weren't a great time to find long term permanent jobs, so if I listed them all with dates I would look quite flighty, but by putting them altogether in one sentence under a temporary/part cover, it hopefully looks more like I was prepared to do a variety of things before I settled into my chosen career.all the bestl
