My son was adopted in 1964 through the National Adoption Society in London which operated from 1916 to 1986. It is all so long ago now that I’m very hazy about the meeting there with the social worker and how all the subsequent procedures went. I wonder if any older forum readers had experience of this society when their babies were adopted ? The NAS was very similar to the Church Adoption Society, as I understand it, and also ran an adoption agency in Bath from 1936 to 1976.
