Lazy bladder

bovary August 20, 2013 22:16
have also posted this on ERIC website, but tbh don''t find I get many replies there, so am hoping you lovely people will have more suggestions.Ds has had increasing issues with daytime wetting this year - it''s never been great, but this year has deteriorated to the point where he is wet several times a day. We have just seen the paediatrician for the first time, after an unsuccessful and frustrating 6 months with the continence health visitor. They are querying detrusor instability, which of course I have now googled, and I have to say his symptoms sound exactly like those of a ''lazy bladder''. This is where the bladder is large but hypotonic (floppy), the child rarely feels the urge to wee, so will maybe only initiate a few times in the day, and there is frequent leakage of urine in small amounts. Describes DS to a T. So frustrating for him and me, as he genuinely has no idea when he is about to leak urine, and it can happen shortly after going to the loo (today we had 3 pairs of wet shorts, the 3rd only 20 mins after gong to the loo).Anyone else had this, and how has it been managed? The article I read said it was an unusual presentation (why is that not a reassuring phrase?), and wasn''t very explicit about treatment options. Thanks!

thanks both. As anticipated, no response from the Eric website yet, not even from their moderators, which is disappointing. It's just isolating really. Today I have micromanaged, and prompted every 2 hours but, since getting back from the shops 2 hours ago and relaxing, he has been wet twice. We are going away this weekend for 4 days, and it is a struggle to pack enough clothes for him (for 4 days we really need about 12 pairs of shorts or trousers and same no of pants). It's just worse than ever, and I am really at a low ebb. I think the next step is oxybutynin, but I am concerned about the side effects, and also we don't even go back to the consultant till mid-October. Till then we struggle on.

Not a solution...! But we found the 'dry like me' pads helpful for DD, saved lots of washing and she felt more secure when out knowing they erre there if she leaked! She did now wear them all the time.. I assume they do boy ones too!

Thanks vronks. I bought the boys pants from the ERIC website, again to save his embarrassment at school, but he won't even try them, says they are like nappies. they are a bit bulky, wouldn't do on a PE day but possibly helpful on a day when he has to manage all day eg on a school trip. But he won't try. Will keep my eye out for something more discreet.PMT not helping me today
