How long til LA get in touch?

LMonty August 19, 2013 16:56
I registered an enquiry with my LA, received a pack and initial enquiry form back about 10 days later (I emailed to find out why it was taking so long as their website said I''d get a reply within 5 days - got a reply blaming ''the recent changes''). I sent off the initial enquiry form two weeks ago and have since heard nothing. How long do I wait for them to get in touch before I get in contact with them and ask what''s going on? Or am I just being really, really impatient?Just finding it so frustrating already. There are only so many books you can read and websites/blogs you can look at before wanting to get going! Any advice gratefully received.

hi MontyUnfortunately things don't move very quickly in this game... 2 weeks is not long and they might be compiling a list and waiting until they have enough people to do an info evening... also, they tend to be short-staffed over the Summer as lots of sws take holidays so September is when it all kicks off again. Hang on in there and if you've not heard by mid September I would give them a ring and check they have your form / ask what happens next and when...

Oh ok, thanks, glad I asked. I wish they'd send out something to that effect though, so you know where you stand - so you know they've at least received your form and its not got lost somewhere. So it'll be three months since I sent off for the information pack before I can expect to hear from someone? Wow, so much for 'speeding things up' eh? :S

Do consider contacting other LAs if they cover your area and voluntary agencies. You may already be aware of this, but you don't have to go with your local LA. Sometimes people have been found its worth shopping around. VA's can sometimes be quicker. But in adoption, things do seem to be very slowly!!!Best wishes,Minnie x

Ironically the government "speeding things up" could be to blame! The speeding up only officially starts once you have completed the official application form, which often comes after the prep course. This means that at every other stage, people seem to be being neglected so that LAs can meet their targets!

HiI went to local information day where I met with a number of agencies, even though I had spoken to several over the phone. I strongly recommend going to one of these events, as meeting the people face to face helped me to pick a LA that I clicked with. This decision was completely different to the one I would have made without going to the event. My response to my enquiry was within 1 week because the SW remembered me from the day.
