Can my ex-partner adopt my child

FamilyFirst79 March 5, 2024 13:09

I adopted my daughter 5 years ago when she was 2 as a single parent as, although I was in a relationship, we were not living together at the time.

he since did move in with me and my children a couple of years ago and has always been known to my adopted daughter as ‘daddy’ they have a lovely bond.

we split up in May of 2023, but continued living together as co-parents and we have established a good co-parenting relationship and are still friends.

he will be moving out of the family home later this year but wishes to adopt her. I fully support this.

we feel that when he leaves the family home, she would deal with it better if she first knew he had chosen to officially adopt her and may make her realise he is not rejecting or abandoning her.

All I have read about partner adoption says you need to be in a loving stable relationship, or be married, or atleast still together but surely what matters is stability for the child and continuity and love and support.

Has anyone any advice or know if such a situation preventing an adoption order from being granted ?
