Care experience as protected characteristic - Independent Review of Children's Social Care

chestnuttree June 29, 2022 19:52

The Independent Review of Children's Social Care recommends to make care experience a protected characteristic by law. That would have implications for all adoptees (positive ones I think).

I am wondering if AUK is doing any lobbying for that? Has anyone heard anything? AUK, do you have plans regarding this? Is there any chance of this happening you think?

Hi chestnuttree, this is something we've welcomed in our public response to the Care Review: https://www.adoptionuk.org/blog/an-adoption-perspective-on-the-independent-review-of-childrens-social-care

We are in close touch with the Department for Education, who are leading on decisions around the implementation of recommendations in the Review, and will be following up the protected characteristic recommendation as part of that.

Thanks @AlisonAUK. That is good to know. I hope this initiative will be successful and that it will include adoptees.
