Books/blogs for prospective adopters with birth child

Lilymo November 30, 2021 21:36

Hi there

We're hoping to start the adoption process in a few months when our birth daughter will be three and a half.

Can anyone recommend any reading (for parents) that could help us consider/prepare?

There seem to be lots of great books to help existing children prepare for a new adopted sibling, but not much for parents.

I have ordered this - Welcoming a New Br or Sister Through Adoption Paperback – Illustrated, 28 Mar. 2013 by Arleta James

Any suggestions welcome - thanks!

Hiya

I have downloaded the Mumsnet app, one of their topics is adoption which is has quite a few discussions on. Lots of varied views and opinions but people seem mainly supportive and happy to share knowledge/advice.

Sally Donovan “No Matter What” is a really good one to start with as it’s her own story - there so many really good books - if you search on this site through the older posts or search the archives you will find many recommended on a whole lot of different topics including introductory starter books. AUK used to have a library and lent out books - I don’t know if they still do?
