Thankfully, society and adoption have changed radically since the 1970s, when unmarried women were still being forced to give up their babies. Our new blog explores the changes that have taken place since and the power of an apology. https://www.adoptionuk.org/blog/time-to-say-sorry
New Blog - Time to say sorry
Yes it is dreadful the way a lot of those women (girls) were treated and thankfully young pregnant girls now have more options and potentially more support. However I should imagine many birth parents will feel very much in a similar position - that their babies and children were forcibly removed from them. It can be hard for them to understand the process and their responsibility for what happened.. If they are helped to get support at that point which enables them to understand and accept what has happened this not only benefits them but protects their children as they grow up from the dangers of unsolicited contact.
