Introduction help

Stacey&Mark August 1, 2021 15:23

Hi

I wondered if anyone can help me?

I am just wondering how it worked with your work when you have to take 2-3 weeks off for introductions? did you take annual leave or unpaid leave? was your employer ok?

I am just concerned that if I don't give enough notice or there are too many others on annual leave my employer will say I cant have the time off?

In my employers adoption leave policy it says we can only start our adoption leave from the date the child moves in with us?

Any information would be appreciated

When you get to the matching stage try and keep your employer informed about the likely timescale

If you were pregnant and gave birth prematurely or late, they wouldnt be able to refuse you, its no different really.

I think I started my adoption leave at intros, I had a week off on leave before they started. They were very accommodating

You can take adoption leave: "on the date the child starts living with the employee or up to 14 days before the expected placement date (UK adoptions)". I'm pretty sure your employer's policy goes against UK employment law and needs revising.

We are fortunate in that we are allowed to take up to 10 days per year special leave and one of the categories is adoption meetings and court dates etc. Up to now I’ve been using them for social worker meetings.

Our adoption leave policy states i have to give at least 7 days notice before starting 12 months leave, and it has to be started 14 days prior to placement so will cover intros

I’ve saved up all my leave to tag on at the end of 12 months….plus all leave accrued whist off and public holidays means I’m hoping for 15 months in total :o)
